Mining for Coins

Mining for the silver or gold to make coins was found way down deep in the man made mines. Finding the gold and silver to make the coins many years ago was no easy task, because they did not have today's tools. The miners would have to walk down a ladder carrying a hammer and a pick ax. If the rocks were too hard the miners would heat the rock and then pour water over the rock to make the rock softer so it is easier to mine.

Mining has been in place for many, many years. In the past silver was used for payment of different things, and the silver was in different shapes like jewelry and then the coin. Egyptians knew that silver was very good. Silver mining in North America was started when the Spanish men worked small mines during their stay in New Mexico, California, and Texas. The coins were from the mine Melle back in the days and everyone used them to trade with each other. The mines that held the silver needed to make the coin date back to the 5th century.

After steam engines were invented in the 19th century the miners had more luck mining the silver and gold. Today mining for silver to make the coins is easier; there are many new technologies that help with mining. You walk into the mines now, and usually your tools are there that you need to use to get the silver and gold out of the ore.
